Deacons

Deacons are men that have been chosen to serve in a specific area of the church.  In our modern culture, it is hard to find men who want to be servants.  Unfortunately, most of us want to be served.  That is what the word “deacon” means.  God established for deacons to be appointed in each local congregation.  Obviously, all Christians are to serve, but these men have dedicated their lives to serve the congregation & perform whatever work is necessary to help the elders as they shepherd the congregation.

A deacon is an office established in the early church (see Philippians 1:1 & 1 Timothy 3:8,12).  The Word of God tells us deacons must meet certain qualifications.  In 1 Timothy 3:8-13, Paul said that deacons must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain, must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience, blameless, the husband of one wife, manages their children & their households well, & tested to be proven of having these qualities.  Their wives also must be dignified, not slanderers, sober-minded, & faithful in all things. (ESV)

Here at Center Grove church of Christ, we are extremely blessed to have such talented men who have been tested & proven themselves blameless.  They work hard & often behind the scenes.  Our deacons serve well & are obtaining a great confidence in the faith that is in Jesus Christ.

We currently have six deacons serving our congregation here at Center Grove.
